Coverage and cost

Explore the potential cost and coverage for your patients receiving a WATCHMAN Implant.

WATCHMAN is covered for a broad range of patients

WATCHMAN is covered nationally by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and an ever-increasing number of commercial insurers for patients who:

  • Need an alternative to oral anticoagulants (OACs), including those with an active lifestyle or physical occupation;

  • Have trouble maintaining a stable International Normalized Ratio (INR);

  • Struggle with treatment compliance.

CMS coverage criteria

Patients are typically covered by insurance for a WATCHMAN LAAC Implant when the following criteria are met, as documented in their medical records:

1. Increased risk for stroke

CHADS2 score ≥ 2 or a CHA2DS2-VASc score ≥ 3

2. Suitable for short-term oral anticoagulation

But deemed unable to take long-term oral anticoagulation

3. Formal shared decision-making interaction
