Atrial fibrillation set to affect more than 14 million over-65s in the EU by 2060
- AF currently affects more than 6 million Europeans and is expected to increase as the population ages1
- People with AF have 5 times the risk of stroke than those with a normal heart rhythm2
- 50% of AF-related strokes occur under age 753
Stroke is the leading cause of long term disability7 and the third leading cause of death7 in AF patients.
In non-valvular AF, over 90% of stroke-causing clots that come from the heart are formed in the Left Atrial Appendage (LAA)4
